Default Catalytic converter broke

I was driving my Bonneville SE last week and then heard a loud noise and the converter separated itself from the exhaust pipe and muffler. I brought it to Midas and they charged $243 for a universal cataytic converter. My question is this. Now my car idles at 2000RPM on startup and the RPM'* are at 4000 when I am cruising at 100KPH. Is this a coincidence or is there something wrong?

No, it sounds like it'* idling at the normal 750-850 RPM, could it be just the RPM gauge is faulty?
