Default right.

OK when i bought my bonneville I knew the trans was bad.I really didnt get into it because i did the upper and lower intake gaskets and now I was getting to the play with the trans. In my case you put the car in gear and dose not move. The speedometer gos up in mph and you can feel it shift a little to the next gear.I have to shut off the car to put it in park otherwise it will grind. You put it in park and the car will still roll and no hold the car in park.Could this be a broken diff in the trans?I had trans shops tell me to check for broken axles?Would it be hard or maybe easy to fix?Any help would be great.ty gene

Could be a bad diff. Can you tell where the grinding is coming from? Changing a diff is not a overly hard job. But will take a while. Billboost has done this. He'* the one to ask about this.

The grinding noise is from putting it in park while the trans is still spinning.Thats why i have to shut the enginge off to put it in park.

I think your car has a 4T60-E transmission. Here'* your diff

It sounds like there'* something wrong with the diff. If I had to take a guess I would say your parking pin is broken, and something got in to the diff and damaged that. There are other members that know more about transmissions then I do, so I'm sure they will chime in.

What you can do is jack up both front wheels and place jack stands under the car. They spin the tires by hand. Let us know what happens? What you feel, see, and hear.

It'* going to be a bit of effort, but not to hard. Get some pans to catch the fluid that will leak out. If anything looks odd, take a picture and post it here right away.

ok,I took the passenger side axle out and found the axle broken.I had my dad spin the driver wheel and saw the piece in the trans spinning also. So,It looks like I just need a new axle,HOPEFULLY.I drilled a hole into the part that still in the trans and my father is going to tap it and try to pop it out with a harden bolt because of the clip thats on the end of the axle.I wonder what the kid was doing with this thing before I bought it.Probably nuetral slamming it.

Hopefully that is the extent of the damage. I would not mind seeing a picture of it

Default Pics..

Here are some pics of the broken axle shaft. It was pretty simple to get the other pice out. What I did was drilled and tapped the center and then inserted a bolt, then used a pry bar and popped it out.
