Pulling the motor and repairing the bottom end . This is a 1996 SeriesII with supercharger , Vin 1 . I noticed in other posts about using the GM aluminum framed gaskets , PN#189017816. Will these work on my engine or is it just for newer motors?

you won't get very far with that number, all of GM'* part numbers are 8 digits...

89017816 is what you need, and yes it will work on your 96 L67

Our advice is to use the aluminum frame gaskets and change out Dex for "mixes with any color or type" coolant. Don't be put off by parts counter clerks whose computer says the gasket will not work with your car. The newer style LIM gaskets (including the aluminum frames) have side rail seals (LIM to block) with plastic locating pins that fit into holes on the outside edge of the block side rails on engines manufactured since mid 1997. Older engines do not have holes for the pins, but the new seals will work just fine. The pins will just hang over the edge.

L67'* need LIMS done too?

Well I'll be using the aluminum GM gaskets. Anything else ? My normal choice is usually Fel Pro gaskets. Any updated head gaskets?

When I changed the gaskets on my son'* 99 SSEi they gave me #89017825 lower gasket. I used the GM supercharger gasket. There'* also two O rings that go between the supercharger & lower intake. The coolant elbow also broke when removing. That seems to be the norm. I also cleaned the throttle body so that gasket was also needed. It'* also recommended to replace all 12 fuel injector O rings.

I always change the injector o-rings on anybody'* car when I remove the fuel rail , just a common thing I do . The elbow will be replaced and I'm going to get the supercharger gasket with the o-rings thru my GM dealer.
All this trouble just because of old intake gaskets leaked internally. Guess it could of been worst , it could of thrown the rod thru the block instead of spinning the bearing.

Not that we are aware of. The head gaskets typically do not fail. The only time we see them changed out is on this occasion, when the pistons need to come out. I think FelPro head gaskets will be fine.

Yes sir. Especially if they are '96 or newer and shipped from the factory with Dex. And even the bulletproof L27 shipped with green coolant will eventually need LIM gaskets changed out.
