95 LeSabre wont take first or 4th.
Okay, so my car shifts sometimes(not usually) It usually takes off in second, and doesnt shift into 4th. shifts great between 2nd and third. Any ideas? I sometimes hear a relay click when it does go into fourth. If this is possibly the problem, where is is located? Any help is much appreciated. [/img]

For some more information, this is on a 1994 LeSabre. I'm not sure what would be causing this but it'* true that most of the time the LeSabre is extremely doggy. It acts as though it'* starting off in second gear. At times it will accelerate normally (start off in first.) Most of the time though, it only has use of 2nd and 3rd gear. It does not drop down into overdrive frequently. When driving it only two shifts are evident. It sounds like it could be shift solenoids but I'm not sure. What do you guys think?

It sounds a lot like one of the Solenoids had gotten stuck or failed... Might want to give it a quick scan if possible ans see if there are any trans codes in the PCM that may help point you in the right direction..

I can't say for sure but I think that no 1st or 4th is an indicator of a Bad shift solenoid...
Does he have Manual 1?

I own a 95 Bonny and had a similar problem. Tranny would shift just fine for the most part and then at times would not shift up when taking off nice and easy. Going into passing gear wouldn't work out either. When going into passing gear it would then kick downa and then back into passing gear right away, yet most of the time the car would shift perfect. This had been going on for quite sometime as I was concentrating on getting the rest of the car in shape. Took it to one garage and they said it seemed electrical. Then I took it to a garage that specializes in electrical and they said it appeared to be mechanical. I could see where this was going so I took it to a Transmission place in my area (AAMCO) and I have to admit - they did the job right. It turned out to be a cracked coil on one of the solenoids. There are two solenoid valves in my tranny. I had them replace both and WOW, solved all my shifting problems. I love driving my Bonnie now. However, to have the work performed cost me about 460.00 Well worth it to me. Glad it wasn't a new tranny. Big Bucks.
