MAF problem is fixed, so now it'* onto the other issues...

1) I smell oil...
My exhaust is healthy, a clean smell to it too, but when I stop my car, it smells like burning oil towards the rear of the engine... Now, my guess is the valve cover gaskets, but I wanted to make sure I thought of everything so if you guys have some ideas of other things it could be....

2) My power steering pump is driving me insane...
Started around august, it sounded making that failing PS pump noise, but it really wasn't that loud, and my steering was fine (and still is), so I ignored it. Now it'* VERY loud and I want to fix it. What are my options?

1 Replace Valve cover gaskets......Should take care of oil smell....$20 cheap fix

2. Get a used PS pump from a salvage yard, if possible. I don't believe that they're that hard to find or expensive from a salvage yard. New/Rebuilts are probably over $100

are those gaskets common to fail?

Yes, mine have needed replaced for a year now.

One more question... When I do the gaskets, do I have to drain the oil?

no, the gravity will keep it in the pan.

always better to ask, than kick urself for sumthin later.

The easy fixes -
1) Hold your nose until you are away from the car and you will not smell the burning oil.
2) Just remove the accesory drive belt. Noise gone

OK for real tho - With the power steering pump, start investigating how to do that job. Sometimes the power steering lines are a pain in the *** to reinstall. The nut threads are just hard to start in for whatever reason.
At least if you find one at a junk yard that is attached to the engine you have a good idea of where the nuts/bolts/all that are.

Here'* something strange...

I've been driving to school for the past three days (40 miles both ways), and the smell AND the PS noise has gone away (you can still hear the PS, but it'* nowhere near as bad). Coincidence?
