My back struts are the self leveling ones and they are making squeaky noises with every bump and dip. Do I need new struts? Also what is the unit in my trunk right at the left hand side with the on and off looking switch. The mech told me it was the pump unit that was not keeping the struts up his sorry *** also told me that he can pump the struts up by filling the air bags up by way of the air valve at the trunk latch but the car is still squeaky and it still looks like it sitting to low to me. He said it was a pump somewhere on the car and I could not find it. Is it a pump on the car that my not be working or what, anything. I brought new KYB struts and he told me to take them back because I didn’t need them..what’* the deal...I told him that my buddies of the Bonneville site was hook me up and tell me all I needed to know and said that you guys didn’t knew a whole or misleading me.... of course I didn’t like that statement because I know you guys know what going on with Bonneville before stuff even happens...

The pump location is under the rear passenger side behind the tire. Struts can not be filled from that valve in the trunk. That is the outlet for air when you request it.

To see if the pump is even working.. turn your car on and go stand by the back passenger corner. In about 35 seconds from the time you turned the key..the compressor is supposed to release a little air and then repump the struts for 3-5 seconds. Do you hear it working?

nope did'nt hear anything...i use to hear what your asking baout but i thought it was the fuel pump or something......is that air pump on a fuse or somrthing

yup, in engine compartment, maxi fuse center, green 30amp, marked elc. the level switch controls this function. toverify compressor operation, find the yellow wire by the compressor and grnd it. pump should start running.

ok after i find the fuse and check that it'* good.... your saying go to the compressor, if the fuse is good and touch the yellow wire to ground... the plug for the compressor is on a plug though right

the yellow wire is in the bundle from the compressor to the level switch( on the right rear control arm). easiest way to do this is put a wire on grnd and poke something sharp into the yellow wire and touch the grnded wire to it. a 12v/light probe works good for this.

why dont i just check it with a multimeter on DCvolts 12volts right? while the car is on....

we are also checking if the compressor actually works, not just the presence of 12v.

I vagely remember doing that when diagnosing my ELC pump with Boosty over the phone on my 97
