This bites!!! I only got about 1300 miles on my freshly rebuild motor. Today on the way home from work, i noticed a real bad noise coming from what sounds like the trans. It sounds almost like the chain is stretched and hitting the cover. All sorts of racket only when Im moving. I dont hear it if I rev it in park or neutral. The trans shifts fine but does feel a little sluggish. I was worried that it was not going to last a long after the mods to the motor. I didnt expect it to go this soon though. My friend has a trans shop so I will let him do the rebuild. But, I think I am going to buy the TransGo JR kit and probably a HD reverse drum. I pulled my pan off last week to change the filter and had small chunks of metal in the pan. I believe they are from the reverse drum. Is the Transgo kit good? Anything else I should consider? Thanks

Its hard to tell at this point. I will get a better idea tomorrow when I put it up on the hoist. but I could actually fell a grinding feeling in the shifter as I was driving.

Put it up on the hoist today. Sounds like its coming from the passenger side of the trans. Im thinking either the diff gears or the planetary gear set went. Possibly the Reverse reaction drum. I gotta get it out and down to the trans shop. My next question. What would you guys recommend for updates and maybe a shift kit. I already have an adjustable vacuum modulator. I want to have a string solid trans with a firm shift when its done. Nothing to harsh though. Recommendations?????

I think the diff has said goodbye to you... You'll know soon enough tho

Thats kinda what I was thinking too. What all is needed to convert it to a HD diff? Where is the best place to get the TransGo kit and the other parts you mentioned?

I got all of my stuff off E-Bay...
But I have not bought the 4th Input shaft, as I am not sure what trans i am going to use.. If I use a 96+ there was a design change in the 4th input shaft... So I have to know what year I an going to use before I order..
I'd say just get the 3.06 diff built with hardened parts..
But the 2.97 diff is supposedly HD, The only difference between the 3.33 and 2.97 is the drive and driven sprockets..
I'd say a built 3.06 diff would more than take any abuse you mat throw at it

So all I would need to biuld up the diff is the hardened drum and shaft?
What about the Kevlar bands that they sell on Ebay? Do you think that they would be worth it?

Sandrock rebuilt his with a pretty much complete kit and the hardened reverse reaction drum... And it will burn.... lol... First time we ever went into a 4T60-E... It still works..
I have a pretty basic rebuild kit as far as the clutches and Bands are concerned...
I figure I have beat the ever loving **** out of mine and its getting weak but still trustworthy... At 165k.. I am surprised its still with me..
I'm not looking for anything radical, but having it hold up for a little more abuse would be nice..
We need a trans guy to answer more for you...lol
I can bet when I get mine apart I will find the friction plates to be worn to almost nothing.. Especially 1st and second... i think 1st will be worn and second a bit burnt..
