Hello everyone!

I am VERY interested in a Bonneville SLE or SSEI, 2000-2002 and have been doing some "research" on the car.

It seems to be a consensus from almost everyone that has the car that it is beautiful (I agree), a blast to drive, but has reliability / mechanical problems...

The main problems seem to be with the Injectors, tie rod, windows, steering column, and other things...

Anyone have any input?

I'm not aware of any injector issues or tie-rod issues. Where'd you hear that?

Window regulators are a DIY fix, and the 2k owners will chime in on the clunk in the steering shaft.

The intermediate shaft clunk is a nuisance but i haven't found it to effect drivability yet. From what i told there is a new version of the intermediate shaft available that may not be prone to clunking the way the current one is but the jury is still out on that one as not enough time has passed yet. But like you said, i love the car and it'* a blast to drive.

I'm on my second Bonneville of the 2K+ era. I had an '02 SE and now my '04 GXP. From the list you posted, the only problem I've had was the very notorious intermediate steering shaft. I have had a few other problems from time to time, but nothing that makes me question my purchases.

I find that the luxury and style of the car are worth the issues - especially since we have this forum to know/understand/and learn how to correct the issues if/when they do occur. All types of cars will have their issues...it comes down to a matter of preference.

As far as safety - I'm sold 100% based upon the number of cars we've seen get totaled and the drivers literally walking away without a scratch. I'm willing to deal with a non-working rear window for the peace of mind I'm driving not only in style, but safely.

ALL CARS HAVE THEIR PROBLEMS.... and from being a working mechanic for 4 years and doing the car thing for 8.... all things on 4 wheel are pieces of *#!t!!!! Go for the SSEi, you wont be disappointed!!!!

It may have more problems than some cars but the issues are extremely cheap to fix if you are somewhat mechanically knolwedgable and can follow instructions from this forum.

I believe that you'll find complaints of the reliability of the cars more from those who do not own them, than do. I've owned a few cars over the years, and this one ranks near the top of reliability. Yes, it'* had some annoyance type problems, like the window regulators, and the intermediate steering shaft, and I did have to replace the tie-rod ends before 50k miles, but compared to some of my friends, with even their imports - it'* been relatively trouble free. Plus, you'll find most fixes rather easy, and the parts less expensive.
