Default Another N* down....

My friend just calls me about 5 minutes ago, I have to go pick him up. It seems his '98 STS had a "Oil Pressure Low" warning come across his dash. Well he kinda ignored it and continued driving. He said after that it started to clatter . Well he pulled over on the side of the road and called me to tell me that the engine is seized (or barely turns as he said), and that the oil has a nice slight silvery look to it. BTW it has 140k on it and it has the proper amount of oil in it. Oh well, time to go pick him up.

140K is a pretty good life for a motor.

I can't imagine what low pressure on a N* would be. Idling is around 8psi normally.

Well that was quick. He was on the Turnpike plaza exit, not too far from here. I tried to crank it, it cranked half the speed of what it was supposed to. Seemed like the battery was dead, but wasn't. The oil does have obvious sparkles in it that aren't supposed to be there. Should he just junk it or have a new motor put in? BTW he has been hinting around on getting a GP or Bonne, I turned him around a while back. I got the mileage wrong also, its 128k.

Don't JY it as others have mentioned. The N* is a new or nothing type of motor overall.

Yeah, I've learned already not to get a JY N*. Learned that with a Fiero that another friend had.

Bad thing is, is that my friend is not the type to go get a new motor, he has already said that he is just gonna sell the car the way it is and go get a GP or Bonne. The STS is in really good shape though, no rust, paint is very clean, interior is near spotless, but the DAMN engine.

I almost bought a 98 STS...Loved the car, interior, and even the engine at the time...but now I'm glad I didn't.

This happened to my grandparent'* 1999 Aurora back when they used to own it...they ended up getting a new motor.

What causes the N** to just die like this? Some last FOREVER and others seem to die young like this one.
