Default Hesitation....

Ok, after getting on my car a little hard. I sometimes experience hesitation while pulling away at stops. I have to push to accellerator almost to the floor to get an immediate response... or else I can hold the gas for about for a couple of seconds, and it will surge a little, then go. This only seems to be the case when I drive it like a supercharged car :P Anyhow, it is getting irritating, and any suggestions would be appreciated!

Ok few more things to add now that I have the time. I was able to scan the vehicle today. I have codes P0440 (Evaparative Emissions System.) and P1441 (Emissions flow during non purge.) I have replace the gas cap already - damn display kept showing that message. I test drove a 1999 buick ultra today, and to be perfectly honest, I didn't realize how poorly my vehicle was running. This ultra would have wiped the smirk off my face without trying. I do not have the power this ultra did. I do not have an overall running problem that I am aware of though - no misfire issues... no rough running. Just that occasional problem in the initial post. Any more suggestions now...?

Tune up!!!!!!! Plugs, wires, fuel filter, PCV valve, (what else am I forgetting ya'll?) Did you get the codes cleared after you replaced the cap?

For your codes, remove, clean and lube up with some silicone grease, the evap vent solenoid near the back wheel. Follow the lines from the cannister, (rectangular box under the car near the back seat), to another small box roughly the size of a deck of cards. That remaining open, when it is supposed to be closed for testing, could give you both codes.

Would this be a good procedure to perform for the sake of doing it? Is this something that can happen with milage, I have 97,000 and thinking of this as a good prevenative maintanace thing.

I don't know if it is needed specifically as a preventative maintenance measure, but it certainly wouldn't hurt. I found that to be the issue on a friend'* 00 SSEi with the "check gas cap" riddle.
