how hard would this be?
OK, this guy I know has a 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix SE Sedan with a 3100 in it. It has a blown head gasket, but hasn't been for long and he hasn't driven it. He'* trying to sell it. He is asking $650 for it, but said they'd sell it to me for $500. I have one question, how hard would it be to do an L67 swap into this car? Or even just an L27 or L36 swap? The body and interior in this car is in sooo much better shape than mine, I'm thinking I could easily have a $1000 car. If either 3800 swap wouldn't be to hard, I'm probably going to save up my money and buy it, and just leave the Bonneville like it is.
Personally I find it hard to believe that a 3100 blew a head gasket. They are however victims of manifold gasket failures which have the same symptoms. If the oil hasnt been sitting in it forever you might just try fixing it. You might find yourself with a perfectly functional 500 dollar car.
Im not sure how long is too long for the oil to be sitting in there, but if you do buy it, get it out of there ASAP, then do a compression test to see if you do in fact have a blown head gasket. If memory serves it will still have good compression even with a bad manifold gasket. Which is far more likely than a BHG.

While I am sure it'* possible. I doubt you'll find a good motor and all the other items for $500.
Heck..drop the same motor back in and enjoy the car..those motors aren't bad if taken care of and maintained.

The W-Body.com board would be a good place to start.

Yes, I owned a 91 regal GS with the 3800 in it. talk about a car that was all engine! there wasnt room for a mouse to fart under that hood.
IIRC, those motors have revised metal gaskets available now too.
You could do a good amount with those motors performance wise too. 3400 or 3500 top swaps aren't too uncommon and there are a few cams available for the 3x00s.
Look over at 60degreev6.com.

Around here and I consider this area to be well priced on motors etc. A good NA will cost you ~500. Then you'd need to consider wiring harness, engine mounts... adaptation. That'* what typically costs the money.
