Not sure if someone has thought of this, and poseted it......Ok, we've all seen mad max and stuff with the aussie falcon that has a clutched supercharger, right? Remember how cool that was? Is there anyway of switching the bypass valve off so that you run N/A? So its like a regular old 3800 then *BAM*(switch) */C monster!!!! Is the bypass vacuum or electric? Would there still be a little boost even though the bypass is open? would it be healthy for the engine? I would like to do this if anyone can help me out. Not familiar with bypassed superchargers. It might help save on some gas too?

THe engine is designed to run in tandem with the supercharger, so if you disable the */c you will have drivability issues.

Series II have been run without the SC belt without too much problem, if any that I remember. The bypass valve is vacuum actuated, with the PCM having the ability to step in and dump boost. You would have to rig up either a mechanism to unhook or clamp off the vacuum line or figure out what signal the PCM sends the BCS to dump boost and duplicate that. It may be as simple as grounding the proper wire, kind of like the Series I Fan override switch many of us have done.

I drove mine for about a week without the SC hooked up and it was fine. Not nearly as fun to drive and really lacked power i was used to having but no other ill effects

The bypass is both PCM and vacuum controlled.

To hold the bypass valve open is one thing. Honestly..the PCM is programmed to keep the valve open until you need the power and then it closes the valve automatically. In essense it is trying to save you all the fuel it can. If you drive with a heavier foot to move the car because it doesn't have the airflow it needs due to the valve being open..you will most likely use more fuel (PCM programmed for the expected airflow) and get worse mileage instead of better.

Driving a supercharged bonne w/o the belt is a whole other thing. Series 1 should only consider running without the belt for a minute or less. This belt drives their waterpump. In this case..it appears we are talking series 2 and this belt is completely seperate, while you can run without the belt.. you will see the pulley turning on it'* own. That is the engine pulling air through the supercharger rotors. You are basically creating a restriction for airflow with the belt unhooked.
