I don't even know how possible this is, but I was bored at work and thinking up stupid stuff...How possible/expensive/hard would it be to convert an L36 bonneville from FWD to RWD using an L36 Firebird/camaro? I know off the top of my head that I'd need to replace the entire drivetrain and both axles, move almost everything from the firewall forward around for it to fit right, if it would even fit in there, would have to re-run the entire exhaust and the intake, might have to do some body work to get the driveshaft to fit, and might even need to have a custom driveshaft made if the wheelbase is too different. I'd have to move the pedals, might have to change the PCM, the entire brake system as well. Anything else that would need done, or anything I've remarked that wouldn't? Opinions, advice? Probably not gonna do it, but I'm curious and wondering.

You should see the Hot Rod article and thread where Chevrolet Engineering shoved an LT1 350 V8 RWD into a Bonneville SSEi by squeezing in the frame from a Caprice:

Way more trouble than it'* worth in my opinion. For the same amount of money or considerably less, you could buy all kinds of goodies from Intense.

i'd been considering using a toranado transmission to mount a larger v-8 running front rear, whilst remaining FWD and not altering the body of the car at all. but i guess that doesn't really answer your question at all.

yes. you could use a camaro'* drivetrain in an h-body, but does the unibody of the car have the strength to support such a modification? how will you mount the rear suspension? will the new tunnel require you to use different seats? with the driveshaft now in the tunnel, is there anough ground clearence for the exhaust pipes?

but this is the most important question. you can put any engine in anything...is the cost going to justify the result?

I know it'd be costly, it'* just my feeling (and probably a few other people'*) that the bonne is a beautiful car, and the few things missing from it are RWD and a 5-speed. Personally, I hate driving automatic or FWD, but it'* a sacrifice I make for the boone. I'd rather not sacrifice, but I can't even begin to figure out how much time and money it would take to do everything that would be required.
