hey
got a new radio for the car a few months back. my seek button and a few others are starting to die off. GM says they are not fixable.(right ) A radio store whats $200 + dollars to repair all the lights.

I found a post with good detail about how to get into the LED bulbs, but i am not sure how to remove them. How do i remove the bulbs?

yea, mine are half gone also. I'll more than likely just buy an aftermarket head unit after awhile.

yeah haro, i found that last night and it was real helpful.
would i just melt the existing solder? i dont wanna screw up my radio.

And for anyone else who might know, if i end up breaking this radio ( cause thats generally what i do), will the cassette/CD deck work as long as i take it to the dealer to be unlocked? just cause i gotta crap load of cassette'* and it'd be nice to hear them again. cant find the CD'*.

You're going to need something known as solder wick. You can find it @ Radio Shack among other places. Heck I don't know if Rip off shack is still in buisness.

You put that little ribbon between the solder and the iron and once it heats up and melts it will be sucked (wicked) into the solder wick.

i dont think you really need the wick. just heat the solder up, pull the LED out of the 2 holes, and then when you are ready to put the new one back in, heat up the hole and put the LED in.. that way you dont need new solder

you really NEED new solder. there is no way you will get a good connection just by using the existing solder. This is a project that is worth spending the 10 bucks in supplies and doing it right
