Has anyone done a DIY fuel pump hotwire?

Are you referring to the wire that is located near the battery under the hood, I believe it has a green plug on it?

What are you talking about, an aftermarket pump? or a switch?

The term Hotwire is used to describe using a larger wire in order to reduce the voltage drop from Point A to Point B. As the wiring for the OEM pump will not supply enough voltage at the pump to allow a unit such as the Walbro 255lph unit to work at its full capacity.

And to answer your question Slowbonni... I have not heard of anyone doing this but I'm sure it is feasible. Maybe on club gp you might find someone who has tried it.

I'm looking into it with the Caspers GP kit. But I need a couple connectors etc to change out.

I just looked up the schematics on your year. I can't find the fuel pump module connector endview..but all the rest look to be a perfect match for the Casper kit in my hands.
