PCM Swap, DIY?
After gaining confidence from a DIY pulley swap I am now wondering if I can install the INTENSE PCM myself.
What kind of scan tool will I need? I was at Parts Source and mentioned I might need a "TECH II" (as often mentioned around here) but the Patrs Source guy wasn't too sure what I really needed for the job. He mentioned that that they had the following OBD Scan tool on sale for $149: See Page 3 of this flyer. http://www.partsource.ca/_pdf/flyer.pdf
Will this do? And what kind of learning curve am I looking at to use the tool effectively?

The Tech-II is only needed to perform the crankshaft relearn once the new PCM is installed (or you can even bypass this step by sending us your PCM to be coded). As for the actuall swap, it is two bolts (7 or 8mm can't remember).

So the scan tool in the flyer wouldn't help? How much is a TECH II tool?
I don't understand what you mean by sending in my PCM in for coding -- do you mean this coul d have been done to the new PCM before INTENSE sent me the new PCM?|

there are 2 options, you can either have a few days of downtime, and send in your stock PCM to INTENSE, they will recode it with the performance burn, and ship it right back to you.. that costs $100
the other options is to purchase a core unit from INTENSE for $100 and have them do the burn on that unit, and then send it to you. then its just the easy swap between the 2 PCM'* and you can then return your stock PCM to them for a $100 refund.
either way, its going to cost you $100
TECHII'* are VERY expensive, and as far as i know, its the only scantool that can do the CASE learn...
FYI, everytime i hook up to my dealers TECHII, its only $35.

to avoid down time I went with option #2 and had them send me a programmed PCM (standard performance settings options) and plan to return the core.
According to your reply, then with option #2 , I DON"T have to perform the Crank Shaft Position Learn procedure??
When I has asked my dealer if they would do a PCM swap they said "no way", and I was under the impression that the last thing you want is the dealer accidently clearing all your new performance PCM codes anyway.
I'm confused :?

If you send your PCM in ahead of time (option 1 as referred to above) then a CASE learn does NOT need to be done as it retains the knowledge of the crank variation (your original PCM).
If you go with option 2 and have us send you a core then that core must be taught the crankshaft variation (I.E. you MUST have a crankshaft relearn done).
Anyone with an HP Tuners suite can do this, some Snap-On tools can do this, and the $3k-$4k GM Tech-II diag tools can do this. Most dealerships will charge anywhere from Free to $80.00 to perform a crankshaft relearn.
If you bring the car to us we will do it for free.

I believe that I will one day visit you guys for some work. Not sure if you noticed my location though. You're more than just a short drive away....Google maps estimates 1,958 km (about 19 hours 18 mins).
