Anyone had any major issues with them? I'd figure I'd ask here before I hunt the internet
The one that I am being offered had a broken, but still functional transfer case. It sounds as if the chain that drives the frond drive shaft is really loose. The front tires engage, but it sounds bad. Real bad. But if the price is good, I'll buy it and fix it myself.
What y'all think?

parents have a 99 that they bought new and haven't had too many issues. I've spent a good amount of time looking at them as I want one. The 96 and 97 I believe had tranny problems and also did not have auto 4wd for the push buttons, but other than that they aren't bad. My old roommate'* 99 tahoe went from 87k to 159k while here and it'* still going strong. AC went out when he moved to Tampa, but other than that it'* been routine mantenance, or fixing stuff he broke.
I'd say go for it if the price is decent.

Thanks for the replies everyone
I currently have a 1991 v1500 4x4 (350 and a rebuilt TH700R4) and as JimmyFloyd will tell you, she runs good
I met this guy at the hobby shop when I was doing my */C rebuild and I was going to give him a hand putting in his new transfer case. We put the truck in the air, and while in the air the guy started it up, up it in drive and the x-fer case in 4x4. The all 4 tires started rollin, but the x-fer case sounded like the chain that turned the front drive shaft was dragging along the bottom of the case. :? Thats the best I can describe it. And the replacement case he bought was the worng one; so no work was done to the truck
So I got a call today while at work (he is an O5; Lt. Bird Colonel
) and he said, I'll make you a good deal on it, as-is. A J/Y x-fer case, here is ~275 + core charge.
Going to take a good look at the truck later this week and hopefully buy my 3rd. Suburban
The undercarriage looked GREAT!! No mud, rust or holes. Just dust
