Default Securit lamp in an 91 bonneville

Hello everybody,
I am a new owner of an 1991 bonneville sse. I partially bought the car because a friend of mine who had one previously said it was a great winter car (we have much snow here in sweden).

Anyway, my problem is that the security lamp blinks when i turn the car of, and when I lock the car the security lamp stays lit. I am not sure if it'* suppose to be like this or not, but previous owner thought it was something wrong with the alarm because the battery is dead after a couple of days if the car isnt used.

Do anyone have an idea?

It'* totally fine. The light is supposed to do that, unless the light does not go off at all after locking, if it is doing that, there is a problem.

Ok, quick answer!

So, I guess I have to look for another reason for the battery to discharge then...

Default NO.

The alarm light in the dash should not ' stay lit ' continuously. It will stay lit for up to 30 seconds after arming. Then it should turn off. There are several probable causes, and searching this forum will dig up several discussions. Some of the problems include: a frayed wire, a bad door sensor / trunk sensor, or a bad alarm module.

My '91 started doing the same thing. I haven't had enough free time to track the problem down. So for now, I pulled the fuse on the alarm module. The light is off, and the battery does not drain down.

Someday...

Ok, thank you for your response.

I have tried to pull fuse #16 that should be the alaram, but the light is still on...

Where can I find the alarm module, and how do I best disable it?

The alarm module should be located under the dash, to the right of the steering column. There are two in-line 15-amp fuses (spade type). Pull one or the other and see if the light goes off.

I have removed the fuse plastic cover and looked to the right on the stearing column, but there are metalplates and more plastic covers there... So what you are saying is that I should dig deeper and remove more stuff and insede there somewhere I will find the security module? Just want to make sure I understand right, because it looks like a lot of work, I might even have to take parts of the dashboard away to...

Remove the kick panel on drivers side so u can see up under dash.Above brake and gas pedal are a few wires that have normal square fuse attached to them , one of those is for security alarm. They may be wrapped up in tape.

Problem solved!

After 3 hours starring at the cables I finnaly found the fuse.

It was located in the center of the stearing column, a bit up. It was 2 black small boxes attached to a metal slip.

Now, I hope that I will be able to start the car tomorrow - ie. not an empty battery...
