even thow it was rusty i still liked that car... it was fun to drive and had Ok power...

That sucks. Ya know, other than the steering rack being kinda finiky when it'* cold, that car really had no mechanical problems.

And a bit 'o rust-stopper could slow down the body rot.

I wonder where MY old Celebrity is I did see it a couple years after I sold it. Your old one doesn't look so hot.

nope... hes driveing it to.. cuz when i went by that place today i did see it in the Lot anymore... Its Alive.... well sort of.. whjat ever junk yard gets that is lucky cuz the trans only has 50K or so on it...

I wonder about that every day here in MN. I grew up, and was stationed in, Texas, where we had a safety inspection every year. They checked things like lights, brakes, horn, tires, exhaust, etc. Basically making sure the car was actually roadworthy. Some of the cars I see around here the inspectors wouldn't have even let them on the lot, much less waste their time actually checking them..

Those are the cars I like to be in front of, so that when they finally die, I won't be stuck behind them, or involved in the crash.

My old car'* sitting in a scrap yard, probably being crushed as we speak. My old truck was grabbed onto with a big hook right in front of my face and ran through a shredder. I got $160 and a SBC off of that one.

I would hope it will find its way into a breakers yard pretty soon in that condition.

When I went to Chicago last year I was shocked at the state of some of the cars I saw that were just driving around and obviously still in daily use.... There were cars being driven around that had been in serious accidents and obviously not repaired at all - some of which were very obviously structurally damaged and should never have been used on the road in that condition. Some had crucial parts like headlights and bumpers actually missing. I saw hoods tied down with rope, cars perforated with rust holes and panels that were so rusted they were hanging on by a bare thread.

From what my friend was telling me the police just turn a blind eye and there is no annual inspection except for emissions.

In the UK our annual roadworthness test (MOT) is pretty strict. You cannot drive around in cars with lights, bumpers or any body panels missing. Accident damage has to be light and merely cosmetic to pass the test. All doors must open and close securely and the damage must not compromise the structural strength of the car or pose a risk to pedestrians. Likewise rust has to be purely cosmetic and not structural. Body panels are not allowed to have holes or jagged edges on surfaces that could come into contact with pedestrians in an accident.

With a test like this you can imagine it is a shock to the system seeing cars on the road like I saw in and around Chicago!
