The front left window on my brother'* 2000 SLE won't go down. It'* stuck in the up position and when you push the button there is not a click or anything so I'm not sure if it'* the regulator or not.. I always though the window would go DOWN, but not UP when the regulator fails, not the other way around.. Has anyone had their regulator fail causing the window unable to go down?

The window regulator failures where the cable snaps so far has been limited to the rear windows. The fronts have had problems where it gets jammed up mechanically. Removing the motor from the regulator, and lubing things up has generally solved that problem. However, that has been when you can hear a faint click when the buttons are pushed.

Without the click, it sounds more like there could be a problem with either the door module, or power to it.

If you don't hear the faint click when you depress the switch to lower, then the driver door module may not be getting power or is at fault. The 30 A bkr in the rear fuse block supplies power (motive force to operate the motors only) to the drive motors for all power windows all 4 doors. There is a 10 A fuse in the rear fuse block that supplies power to the driver door module. If you have power to operate the door lock & mirror in the driver door then the DDM is powered up. And that really leaves you with the power window regulator & drive motor assembly possibly being at fault. At any rate the driver door interior panel will have to be removed for further inspection.

I'm gonna jack a thread here but with a quickness, I have the same problem, and I just want clarification. My left front window won't go down either but I hear the click you describe that is a good thing right??

If you hear the click, then the system is trying. consider loosening some of the bolts on the motor/regulator to relive any pressure that might be there and operate the window.

Yeah I agree, I've followed Archons write up on the rear windows and I am gonna try to do them all today. I just wanted a little more clarification.

Tim, when you hear the click that coincides with you depressing the switch to lower the window, that means that the driver door switch is functioning and the driver door module is functioning correctly. It is switching power & ground to the approriate drive motor terminals to lower the window, when depress the switch to raise, the driver door module simply reverses polarity (switching power & ground again) to the drive motor terminals to raise window.

ok, my brother was wrong about the car. The motor DOES in fact make a click when you press teh switch, it just will not operate. I have the SLE for a week while he'* in Canada so I'll be fixing this sometime this week. (in the 95+ Degree heat.) I hate GM sometimes.

The faint click would be coming from the upper part of the door. (driver door module switching in power & ground) Is the click actually coming from the drive motor/regulator area in the lower left section of door?
