Anyone use theirs?
Wanna know how effective they are, and how to tell if mine is still working. Decided to try it out tonight.

My block heater was the only thing that gave my Bonneville the edge to start quick last winter...but that was before I did a good tune up. After that I didn't need it, however it is still a good idea to use it.
If you want to know if it'* working, try parking the car in a real quiet place, plug it in, stick your head under the hood and listen for a quiet buzz.

lol...I wish using the block heater was a choice around here. Well, I guess it is a choice, but the alternative is walking to school.
Yeah you'll hear a kind of hissing/steaming sound when you plug it in after a couple seconds. There'* not really too much to go wrong with them, so I would bet it would work still.

You'll know if it'* workng when you start it cold and immediately get heat from the heater.
Also, if it'* a real good one, snow will be melted off the hood and run down the grill and refreeze.
They do go bad. Sometimes it'* the element and sometimes it'* the cord, but I don't think I've ever had one last more than three years.
Watch the cord for cracks and breaks. I had one start on fire a few years ago because of a cracked cord.

Besides my car hardly warms up on the way to work as it is.
10 miles and I don't even hit 180*
