Ha, I got an '86...I just made it into the Bonneville Club'* definition of classic. For anyone who has a similar year, though...what should I be looking at to improve power? Keeping in mind I don't want true duals (I love mah torque). Most of what I've seen thus far has been the ignition system and exhaust...is that really all the 305 needs? (Of course, heads/lifters/cams and all that good stuff comes along, to)
Hey! Another 86'!
I've got true duels, no lose of torque. I think you are thinking about the V6s that populate the rest of the club. I maybe wrong though. You can't beat the sound though, I'd give up a bit of torque for the awesome sound.
Check out my site for all my mods.
There really is a power ceiling in a 305. If you are interested in serious performance do a 350 swap.
Where are you from in Canada? I'm in Winnipeg.
Welcome to the club!

I just saw your question on my car domain site about the headers. The engine in my car right now is actually out of a 73 Monte. Any header that fits a Chevy 305 will fit.

I'm well aware that the old 5.0 will only do so much, but at the same time, I'd like to TRY and keep the old Bonnie as original as possible. I don't want to do anything that I can't undo in 5 years or so if I decide to put it back to stock for one reason or another. That'* why I'd like to keep the 305 and just push it as far as it will go without doing anything too extreme. At first I'd just planned on stealing parts off a camaro or something, but then I thought...why go through the trouble if I could just get aftermarket parts that'd give me higher gains?
Thats the way I felt at first. Aftermarket parts for chevy 305s are cheap and plentiful. I like how much power I've got now with the 305. When it isn't my daily driver anymore I might do a 350 swap.
Good luck with your modding!

lol, thanks...I'm going to need all the luck I can get. But hey...the engine looks pretty beat down. New parts will shine, so I'll end up making it LOOK better, to!
