Default Rear Window Defroster

Anyone have an idea on my rear window defroster--it defrosts the midlle of the window, not the bottom or the top of the window. What might the problem be?l

the defroster lines might be broken, is the Defroster not working the while way across the lines or is it just in certain areas

It works the whole way across the window, just in the middle and not the top or bottom third of the window.

Dave, sounds like its definitely something in the glass. Do you have full glass coverage? If so just get it replaced and be done with it. If not, check a boneyard for a replacement.

some damn kids shoot my rear window out at work and i had to get a new window, i got a used one and after the Dealer put it in, it had the same symptomes only the middle section would defrost.......i think it as something to do with the adheared sections on the glass that carry the current to each horizontal conductior, onther problem i thought of is that not enough current from the car is getting to the rear window, so only a few of the horizontal conductors are heating........ill pull down my rear pillar covers to check it out with in a few days or soo,

Bummer. This is one instance where I'd b*tch and moan at my agent until they coughed up for a new window, because once the grid lines get scratched in handling, they're toast.

I assume the original problem is easy to spot; i.e. the grid lines are either working or they're not, right? If the break(*) are _very_ tiny, they can be touched up with conductive paint, although I've never had much luck trying to repaint more than a millimeter or two of missing grid line and actually having it work again afterwards.
