Worth putting an engine in my 1990 Bonneville
I have a 1990 Pontiac Bonneville LE with 134k on it that spun a rod bearing last week. I've been using my parents cars, and driving them to and from work every day so I can go to school, work, etc. I need a car.
I can't afford any real monthly payments, as college has basically got me bent over income wise. I make just over enough to pay my bills, I can't afford any car payment.
What I can swing is about $2000. My mechanic says he can put a used engine with around 70k on it in for around $2000 with labor and all, warranteed for 6 months. Is it worth doing this on a car that is otherwise in good shape, or would I be better off buying a $2000 beater?
I plan to drive this car for the next year or two for what it'* worth, hopefully longer. I like the car, it'* big enough for me to load 2 amps, 4 guitars, and 4 people in without being too cramped, and it looks good. Then again, if I put the money into it and something else major goes wrong, I'm basically screwed for a while.
I'm not sure what to do. Help!

I'm just afraid on both ends, I guess. The $2000 budget is it, really. I've already spend about $700 on my current Bonnie fixing it up, replacing things that needed to be replaced, etc, when this happebed. I'm afraid if I buy another car, stuff is going to start to break and I won't be able to fix it.
On the other end, I'm afraid of the tranmission on the current Bonnie. I'm afraid putting a newer engine in with as many miles as it has on the transmission will do it in for good, and then I'm stuck again.

Well, in a weird turn of events, my parents went and bought an '04 Taurus, and gave me their car, which is also a 1990 Bonneville. So... I'm set, I guess. I'm going to parts swap to make one mint Bonneville, and scrap or part out what'* left.
Weird. But good.
