What does it mean?
The letters indicate option packages:
SE = Standard Edition
SLE = Super Luxury Edition (a hyped-up SE all around, an SSE(i) look-alike in '98-'03)
SSE = Super Sport Edition, has just about every option standard. Discontinued in '00, SLE took over the same features.
SSEi = same as SSE, but the 3.8L V-6 is supercharged!. Not sure why they used the letter "i" for that. :?:
GXP = replaced the SSEi in '04, with a Northstar V-8 instead of supercharged V-6. The letters just sound cool.

SE means nothing.
SLE DOES indicate a package option on the SE, and the Sport Luxury Edition is correct.
SSE means nothing.
SSEi means nothing
GXP means nothing.
This is from Pontiac, directly into my ear on the phone. Their explanation is that Pontiac isn't Chevy. The apparent acronyms are not meaningful. Just a grouping of letters.
you just dont believe what hassle we went through in the earlier years trying to figure out the true meanings of the letters. I have a book and it just states the SLE is the only intials with meaning. Well, soon enough BonneMeMN and 1993 SLE will say there share.
