Default windows messenger!! &^()*()

Windows messenger is really starting to tick me off! I have uninstalled it, and yet, it doesn't show up in my task bar, it doesn't even show up in the programs that are running in the bar next to the clock.. But it STILL signs me in whenever I connect to the internet but I can't see the program running. This is one reason why I hate microsoft! It says it uninstalled it... well kind of, you just can't see it running now, but it'* still there! How do you perminantly get rid of windows messenger?

see, I want to use MSN messenger instead, but I can't, because windows messenger keeps signing me in and when I sign into MSN messenger, I get signed out almost instantly because windows messenger tries signing in again. I've already tried deleting my name from windows messenger, but it won't let you!

Make sure to delete all the folders from the hardrive, and run msconfig, and make sure the messenger box is unchecked.

Open Task Manager, and end the process called "msmsgs.exe". Then, do a search for "msmsgs.exe" and delete it. If it comes back after that, let me know, because it has to do with Outlook.

I removed the MSN/windows messenger that comes with XP on all of our computers.

if you do a yahoo search for removing windows messenger you will get MANY ways to get it off your computer completely. Most of them work too.

Windows Messenger NEVER comes off your computer with standard user servicing. It is "intigrated" into the system. That means if you try and delete it'* root folder you will get an error message saying it is a necessary windows task and therefore cannot be deleted. I hated Windows Messenger so much, and then I found this gem:

Go to START and then click RUN and type in this command:
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
Copy paste that into the run dialogue is my suggestion. There should be a five second delay and then your computer will start removing windows messenger automatically.

Worked like a charm! Excellent tip!

Didn't work for me. But that'* because I went in and manually removed it, so it couldn't find msmsgs.inf to execute that string.

Mine has never returned. However, if you don't have much knowledge and experience in finding components and ridding them, I'd suggest you do what Phish has posted. Good luck!

Also, I'm not sure how it will impact you to run that string if you run Office XP with Outlook. Do you, Phish? Let me know.

P.*. On one of my user computers here, I had to go in and manually remove the CWS trojan before they finally came out with a fix. That'* just one example of manual removal I have done. So I have considerable experience.

Windows Messenger actually will cause Outlook Express to run slower or even freeze up. After I got rid of Windows Messenger I noticed Outlook Express ran a lot better and I didn't lose any of my contacts who were affiliated with Windows Messenger. I haven't seen any problems since I ran the string. Usually I would just go in and disable the .dll so that Msmsngr would not start up at the system start up thus eliminating the sign ons, but I had no use for keeping it on my computer at all.

The amazing thing is, malicious spyware is easier to remove manually than Windows Messenger is. . .

Create a .bat file and type in a little line of code with the "mir" command. Oh wait, that will erase EVERYTHING on the HD.
