I just had to re-install my old coolant thermostat.
The 4 holed 180 one.
What a difference between this one and the 1 holed 180 stat.
It runs a whole notch cooler all the time.
That is 2 notches below straight up(90 C).
That'* about 10 F cooler or about 170 F.
I can feel the difference.

That'll come in handy for the trip down here. I think we're usually 5-10° warmer than you year-round on average. I'm able to run a 2-hole 180 year round here. Maybe I should switch to a 4-hole for summer.....but I want to find out how my high-speed fan override works on the hottest days first.

My high speed fan will bring it down to one notch below straight up with the one hole but down to 2 notches with the 4 hole.
I find that the stat makes more difference than the fans.
The fans will bring the temps down when they start to climb above the stat norm set point but won't bring it down further.
Think about it. The more coolant that'* flowing, the more effect your fans will have.

I'm looking forward to 10* warmer.

Oh I know you are, When he was in Chicago and in my car, Paul'* like man don't you got the AC on? Of coure not, it'* was only like 75 I'm thinking, To me it wasn't bad, I always ride with the windows and roof open, Almost never use the AC. Paul was sweeting in the back seat, maybe he was just too eager for that first bowl sized of that 151 mix he had right off the bat?

Back on track here, man you got me wanting to go drill my 180, what size bit should I go use? Mine now usally rest at 1/2 notch below top sometimes 1 notch sometimes right at 200, I'd like to see those temps down some myself. Drilled for the summer it is.

I originally went with 1/8" holes, and learned quickly. Start with 1/16, just a pair, and see how it goes. You can go up, or go big seasonally from there. Just make sure you de-burr the holes top and bottom with a larger bit (spinning by hand), then rinse it well to keep the debris out of circulation.

For the summer go with 4 - 3/64" holes....or 1/16" but go with 4 for the full effect.
It'* 80 F here now and my car never goes above 1 notch below straight up. With one hole it would climb a notch and I would have to turn on my high speed fan to get it back down.
Now the high speed fan will pull it down to 2 notches below but it will always stay at 1 notch.
Bill has 2 holes and it works for him but maybe 3 would be something you could try. :?

Temperature today in Calexico is 107 F and 40% humidity. I already have a 180 stat on my 93 SSEI and am installing a Haydem variable speed fan control switch. But if I can mod the stat to allow for better flow and cooling, great!. My low temp ever is 37F on January early morning. then 50'*.

So I figure I can't really just take it out and leave it out.

I'd go with four 1/16" holes on yours. Just buy a good Stant or modify your existing one. Make sure the holes are drilled in the rim where the rubber seal won't block them, and remember the seal moves inward as you torque the outlet down, so leave enough room. Deburr the holes, and rinse it well.

sounds easy enough. That will kepp a nice flow and aliviate the pressure on the hose too.
