I have never heard about these until the other day ago while at a store. What exactly do they represent or supposed to show for? It sounds like just another way to get money by slapping a name on a ring. :?

A promise ring is like a pre-engagement ring. It is a baby step to being engaged, at least that is what the jewelers say it is. And yes, I have gotten a promise ring....PDad gave me one after 2 weeks of dating.

At the risk of being beat up here, I gotta say, to me a "promise ring" is just a ring that a guy gets when he'* too afraid to commit just yet, and is appeasing for the moment. I bought my wife some jewelry before we got engaged, but never called it a "promise" anything. The rings were nice, and communication is key.

I guess to me, a promise is a promise. It'* exactly what getting engaged is. A promise.

TWM- I agree with you. I've always thought that a promise ring is more of a pre-teen/teenage kind of thing. Too young to get engaged/married but has the intentions when they get older. You are right that the engagement ring is a promise.

If you want to buy her a ring just get her a nice ring. Tell her you are doing it just because. What exactly are you promising? To treat her well? To be faithful? To always be there for her? To get her a nicer ring when you have more cash? Actions will always speak louder than a ring. Another thing to consider is the expectations that you put on yourselves when you start putting titles on things in your relationship. It can change things
