I read this on zzperformance, its 1" longer and it says it will filter better and longer. If this is true and tested I will try it out.

I've heard the same, but there'* some risk involved. I understand road hazards are a major concern.

Its been a couple weeks and a couple vehicles since, but I thought that the oil filter is a ways up there? Would it restrict the flow to much?

It is not the restriction that you have to worry about (There is none), it is the road & Speed Bumps that you'll have problems with. Our cars are not designed to have a filter that sits lower than the oil pan! If you still want to try it, go ahead though, you'll find yourself stranded & looking at a new engine soon enough when you loose all your oil.

Your car is designed with a certain oil filter size in mind. Dont be dumb and use some odd ball filter that isnt made for your car just leave it alone

i've been using the 4.3 filter for about a year now since i first heard about that mod i wanted to test it out and since then have used it. and to what you think it isn't true. i have noticed that between the oil change with the 3.8 filter to the 4.3 filter the oil comes out looking alot cleaner and i noticed my oil pressure doesn't build as high than it did with the 3.8 filter.

I had used the filter before and it does hang lower then the stock ones ( is slightly lower then the pan ). I did notice too that the oil pressure isn't that high. I just thought it would help cool the oil more since it'* more exposed to the passing air. Sped bumps isn't that big of a deal as if you are to hit one that fast or that hard to cause it to bottom out.. you're an idiot and would probably scrape the oil pan. If however you were to hit one hard and fast.. I will agree that it may rip the oil filter off ( and possibly screwing up the threads and shaft of the mount ). All in all.. I"m either for or against. I went back to the original ones now as the fact of having the oil filter mount being damage ( and I have no idea how much work and what parts would cost to replace it ) is the major reason I went back. If youwant to go for it.. bonus.. just be careful with curbs and speed bumps.. thats all.

I have put that filter, called a PZ-29 in Penzoil speak, on a couple of Grand Prixs. They fit but there is not much room. On some 3800'* it would be no problem since the filter goes out at a 45 degree angle or 90 degree angle to the ground and cleareance is not an issue. If you want to try out the filter I recomend putting the filter on and then compresing the suspension on that side as much as possible. Have someone sit on the hood or something then measure how much cleareance you have.

My friend has been using a 4.3 filter on his Regal GS for over two years now, he hasn't had a problem. That'* what I'm going to switch to at my first oil change.
