Default Custom RAM intake

i was talking with some a/c guys at work, they said i could get some tin w/ insulation on it
i could cut a hole in the hood right behind the drivers side headlight, going to a custom airbox, tubed to my MAF
put a lund scoop on top
would there really be a performance gain?
what filter would i use?

To be honest with you I dont really understand what you mean, you said right behind your headlight, but wouldnt it have to be up there a ways light almost half way up your hood?

Probably the best kind of filter would either be a K&N type or one of those Ractive heat shielded filters that channel the air directly into the pipe (works awesome on my car).

For a regular SE there would definetely be a performance gain because of the airbox being gone and you having faster air flow but the actual hole in your hood and custom air box probably wouldnt help the performance of your car any. I would save that for ppl with superchargers.

thinking more about it, and being lazy
i think i'll just go with a tube behind the grill going to my stock air box with an enlarged opening

I know what he means as the older style Bonnevilles have a different location for the air box than the 92'* - 99'* do. Your idea can work & don't let anyone tell you any different. But it is true though, to gain the MOST out of it A SC'd engine would get the best benifit from this as compared to the NA version. You will still gain a little hp from the colder air intake, but not enough to add lots of HP though. :?

What is it, every drop of 10 degrees in temperature increases hp by 1? Thats a lot considering your engine compartment gets pretty hot.

Someone else that knows more could comment on that hp thing but its somewhere around that.

doesnt the ait being pushed into the engine instead of the engine pulling the air help?
just as reduced backpressure means the engine doesnt have to push the air out...

why would an SC car get more of a benefit? Dont the SC heat up the air anyway and cancel out the "cold" part?
