the other day in the blue beast, our beater an '89 FORD Aerostar van i am heading home, i had a load (about 200 lb. of books and 20 cu. ft. of mulch) so i was just lookin' to crooz' i am at a stoplight revving the engine (you got to to keep the oil pressure up) then i hear this slight buzzing sound next to me, almost sounds like a rev, (i had the windows down cause the AC stopped workin' about the same time the last dinosaur died) i look over and there it is, my worst enemy...

one of the baddest imports at my school...

here is this dirty white (he forgot to wash it last decade) Honda Civic, it'* a true sleeper, the only clue to its performance is the folgers can that is barely visible sticking out from under the garden edging...

i look over toward the blond spiky haired kid and say "You shouldn't rev your engine, you are working your hamsters hard enough already, they need a rest" after a few seconds he comes back with "It'll beat your slow *** van!" at this point i look down at the dash and as expected, the check engine light is on. i then say, in true ricer fasion, "Yo, my check engine light'* on, the engine'* not working right.. but WTH, i've always wanted to know how slow this thing really is!" he laughs and puts up his window, that is the last time he ever looked at me. :( i think about torque breaking it but realize that with 155 ft/lbs of torque and 140 HP (before it started puffin' the blue stuff) from this huge 3.0L engine that i could only rev it 300 MAYBE 325 RPM above idle, we are talking about shocking amounts of torque here...

then, all of a sudden, i hear the roar of a Formula 1 engine beside me, i quickly realize that the light has turned green, i give some gas (OK a lot) and throw the trany into drive, about this time i hear the F1 engine hit its fuel cutoff...

...as he reaches for first gear...

my tranny hits first about the same time his revs start to drop (due to proper clutch engagement)

about 4 seconds later we were getting to the other side of the intersection when, all of a sudden, i hear that F1 engine hitting its fuel cut-of at what must be 20,000 RPM from the sound of it...

...then he gets into second gear...

at this point my engine is still turning about 2900 RPM in first and i am starting to get scared because i know low gear ratio'* mean quick acceleration and this guy must be running a 4.11 final and first had to be somewhere near 6:1 judging by the way those hamsters were screaming...

right about the time my tranny shifts to second i hear the F1 engine running, like clockwork, into its fuel cut-of and backing off...

he is now in third gear...

but his revs start picking up much quicker that before, it was that very moment i realized i had bitten off more than i could chew by messing with someone with "MaD tHiRd GeAr VtEc SkIlLs, Yo!", and i hear a sound that, until now, has never been heard outside of the stands at a F1 event, the doppler effect of a F1 engine coming at you full speed...

but thankfully right as he is about to pass me the next light turns red and we both proceed to lock up our tires in an attempt to stop for the next light...

BTW, we do really have an '89 Aerostar XLT (190,000 miles or so on it) and it is a POS if you drive it for more than about 5 minutes the check engine light comes on, and the other week i had to take it in to school to pick up about 200 lb. of books, and it had about 20 cu. ft. of mulch in the back when i took it...
