Default signature pics

After joining this site a few days ago, I am addicted and read all of the current posts that I can. One thing that I have noticed and that I am annoyed by is the giant pics that people put in their signatures. I dont mind when the pics are in the left column and small, but some of the ones around here are getting way too big (like half a screen!). We dont need to forced to see your car every time you make a post, it gets kind of annoying to scroll through them. If you want, put a link to cardomain so we can look later, but this is almost as bad as those stupid pop-up windows you get on other websites. I dont mind seeing your car, it'* just seeing it 5 times on one topic that it kind of gets to me.
Ok, now that all of my anger is gone, I dont mean to offend anyone with this, I am just asking to take it down a notch.

I've often wondered what it was like to have a dialup and have to wait for all those to load. How would everyone feel about Hector and I thinking of a pixel size limitation or even a specific kb limit to a signature pic size? Mine isn't very big....people like to show off their cars, but we might be able to come up with a compromise.

Say one pic in a sig, and it has to be smaller than such and such?

I agree, your pic is decent size, it is the height that kills me. If I didn't have broadband I probably wouldnt use this site as much. Anything less than or equal to the box that I am typing this text in sounds good to me.

http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...pic.php?t=2256

The first two posts here with sig pics are mine and Dr. Seuss.

Mine is 32kb.
Doc'* is 96kb.

What kb limit would be good? 50? 75?

It does get annoying yes but I have gotten used to it because I know most people don't know how to format digital pictures correctly or for maximum size / space possible. Will, my image is 15k and is a jpeg. So yours is technically taking too big for its size. It is not optimized. If you want your pictures to load faster, format them in GIF format rather than JPEG. What I will do is "borrow" some of the members with big signatures, see how big there images are, and reformat them for better size without sacrificing quality. Then I will get back to you.

This is why on my Forum we've limited all Signature pics to MAx size of 130 high X 500 wide! It was too hard to read through the posts if they were any larger than that & too slow to load the pages too! There is some exceptions there I know, but we're working on it!

I agree all the way with you, those pics are just too dang big. Yes I know this forum is for Bonnevilles, but we don't need to see how big your car can get on the screen.

I think 50k is decent. What we will do Willwren is enforce it, so if people have a little excessive pic we can ask them to downsize it or even help them optimize it for the sake of the community.
