If you are going to drive it in any salt conditions Colin I would highly recommend that you service and inspect the rear drum brakes every year. And try to keep the front & backside of backing plates...

The Transmission Control Module (if the '99GP is so equipped) has to "relearn" everytime the battery goes dead or unhooked. Hopefully that is the issue here.
