Default 01 SSEI extremely loud noise

I have a 01 SSEI with 140K miles, I just bought the car on this past Saturday. When I first start the car, especially after the car cools down, it makes a really loud noise. It sounds like a Supercharger coupler, but about 15 times louder. The noise usually lasts about 20-30 seconds and goes away. the car runs fine down the road, and also holds good oil pressure. I am going thru a divorce after 26 years together, and this is the only way to work 40 miles away, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks

You can rule out the SC quickly: Remove the supercharger belt, start engine. Is this sound still there?

Sorry Guys, I have been dealing with other life issues, but I came by to give more info.

I removed the Supercharger belt, as well as the main accessory belt to rule out any nose from those 2 .

The noise normally happens more in the morning when the car has sat all night. I get to work around 3 a.m., at 11 a.m. I go to lunch, and the noise doesn't happen at all sometimes, but if it does, it is not as intense. If I let the car sit all day, and start it to leave work at 2 p.m., the car has not been making the noise. It is almost like the warmer the outside temperature, the quitter the car is. I drained some oil out, and added a bottle of Marvel mystery oil yesterday afternoon and let it run about 10 minutes to get mixed in. I started the car this morning and the noise was not nearly as loud, or as long lasting as it has been. So I will see what happens after I make a couple of trips to work in it. From what I have read and videos I have watched, it is looking to me like it is going to be a bad lifter. That is not a good thing, but it is better than a bearing going bad on me.

This weekends job is to work on my P0171 code, I sprayed carb cleaner around my engine yesterday, and it appears that the upper intake gasket is blown out, it is pulling enough cleaner in under the supercharger, that it will shut the engine down pretty quick.

thanks for the replies so far, and I will give another update when I know more.

Intake gaskets. Do your coolant elbows too.

Drain oil, put cheap oil and a cheap filter in. Run engine for a few minutes, change oil again with normal filter/oil.

^ agreed & as mentioned, the plastic elbows should be replaced with metal ones.
Dorman 47065HP makes the quality replacement.
