Well this has happened just as the cold days have come upon us here in WI. I will either start my car normal or with my remote start and the fans inside won't kick on. The car is warm and everything on the setting is on high and on 82 deg. Sometimes it will turn on after about 2 min of driving other times it will after 5 min. Today it happened again, so when I was at a stop light I was so frustrated cause the car was warmed up and no heat so i smacked the right side of the center console and boom the fans kicked right on and heat was flowing. Any ideas what would cause the fans to not come on and then sometimes come on after few min of driving?

Peek under the passenger side dash at the blower motor..GM'* have problems with the connecter melting causing a poor contact..Ive repaired 2 on Cadillac Deville'* and one on a GMC Denali pickup.

It'* either that or time for a blower motor. I'm betting on the motor.

So far no problems maybe that nice smack did it. Is that motor under the passenger dash below the glove compartment?

I'm not familiar with your system, but there'* a good chance that there'* a loose, or poor connection anytime a good smack makes something start working. Might be worth removing the console for a look see? Is there a climate control for the rear seat at the back of the console?

A year and a half ago, I replaced the blower motor, (after 5+ years without problems,) for intermittent running. (a worn commutator)

The resistor pack was not replaced, even though it doesn't work.
But, the slower speeds do not generate sufficient airflow anyhow,
and I always used the hi-speed fan selection.

Just recently, it is occurring again. Anyone else have this issue?


It seems that 1.5 years for a fan motor, is a bit young to repeat the same problems. The motor costs $53.00 plus shipping, and the hour+ of work to replace it. A job I do not relish closing in on age 70.

I consider this much too short of a lifespan. Seeing that the fan motor,
( while cycled for a few minutes weekly) is only used occasionally, for short periods of less than 1 hour. My drive to work, was only 4 minutes. It was hardly time enough to be worthwhile blowing cold air!

Hopefully, I missed something else that is causing this issue.
Any ideas?

take a look at the connector jiggle the wires with it running and see if it cuts out, is melted etc. there is alot of current so any looseness is going to cause issue. i think you should have full battery voltage on high, make sure.

Correct:
full battery voltage on hi. ( no resistors in line)

Connectors:
Are tight, and no signs of overheating.

I went thru this exercise, last time also.

With the old motor removed, there was an open circuit in the motor itself.
even rotating the squirrel cage didn't change the results.
Have yet to pull the motor again...
as I said I'm nearing 70, and I am alone.

Yea with mine it any little tap will get it going again. I'm wondering if it is maybe wire along the line some where. Ill have to do some checking around the firewall and around and below the glove box.
