Question 97 Grand Am GT Security Lockout

So, I just bought a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am from my cousin who was about to junk it for parts. the only problem with it is that pesky alarm system (and some minor things but those are easy). Is there a way to bypass they system completely without buying anything crazy? I don't think the Security system relearn process will work because it'* a cut key so no chip or anything. Also, I want to replace the ignition lock completely with a switch.push start. Will that bypass the security system? It'* a beater car so I am definately not worried about the alarm being in there anymore.

A few things I tried that lead me to the conclusion of the messed up security system:

Key turns and all power comes on but won't crank at all. All system lights are on including the Anti-theft. Starter is fine because I'm jumping that right now to get it running. Everything else works fine when I drive around.

the diagram shows just a park neutral position sensor on the trans. unplug it and check for 12v on the yellow, thats the input from the ign. then if you plug it in and back probe the purple there thats the output to the starter. if you dont get the 12v on the yellow when someone hits the start the ign switch is messed up. and if you wanted to put a button on it in would be there on the yellow

As far as I know. I took it on a 20 minute drive to try to clear out some of the nasty old gas, then left it running for about...2-3 hours and it stayed running. no idle problems or anything.

Haha ya I noticed that after I replied. I'll try that as soon as I get off work. You said the yellow wire is on the transmission?

the pnp switch is normally on top of the trans by were the shift cable goes. it tells the pcm what gear you are in and its also the neutral/park start switch, so there will likely be more wires going to it that just those

I'll definately check that out. If it isn't getting power would that just be the fuse...I have no idea why I haven't checked the fuses...I feel dumb right now and I'm hoping the ignition fuse isn't blown haha

If it isn't the fuses and does end up being the crazy security system, how hard is it to just yank that out or bypass it...without buying the expensive kits.
