Thanks Art, feels good to get so much done, each thing done means it should be a lot longer before I have to think about doing it again.
I took it for a test drive and it did well, it drives so much quieter, and shifts so much smoother now.
After the transmission fluid has mixed with what was left in there, on the dipstick it still looks really clean, so I am going to wait a little while before dropping the pan and changing the filter, I will do it before too long though.
I guess I may as well go ahead and order the fluid, I still have a bottle of Lube Guard additive for when I do the job.

I know two choices for fluid that I have in mind would be better than what I use, just not sure if they are really worth spending more on..
I have always used Mobil 1 Synthetic..
I have wanted to go with Royal Purple, or better yet Redline, but it is a bit more expensive..

80.00 for 6 qts of Royal Purple and 83.00 for 6 qts of Redline..

Of course this works well, and only costs me 52.00, a lot more affordable.


I hope the old transmission gasket is in good shape, and is reusable as it is supposed to be.

Went ahead and got the Mobil 1 again, since I already have some Mobil 1 in it, and it responded well to it, started shifting smoother right away.

Is that Dex6 you ordered?

I think standard wise it is closer to Ford'* Dexron V, I went with it because I have ran Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF in my PA for a year or two before Dex VI was ok'd for use.
I thought Dexron VI would cost more, but since it is not fully synthetic, but a synthetic/dino oil blend, it seems to cost a god bit less, I could get 12 quarts for 75.00, which is not too bad.
I could send the Synthetic back and get two filter drop and changes worth of fluid, but I am not sure going with a little bit thinner fluid would be best to do, especially considering how old/dark the fluid I got out of here was..

You are right the dex6 seems to be a bit thinner. Blended or not, both will work fine.
Since you are adding the Lubegard, fluid will be cooler as well, all is good!
Hope you are buying a GM filter kit. I sure did not like the quality of the Napa kit.

Yeah, I figure as long as I check on it from time to time, and change it when it needs to be changed, then it should be ok.
To be honest I am betting Mobil 1 is not 100% synthetic either, their oil says fully synthetic, but it really is a mix of synthetic/dino oils as well, so it is not a true call 4 oil, more like a class 3 I think it is, they cannot label it like they do here overseas though.
I have heard Mobil 1 Synthetic oil has like 5% polyalphaolefin in it as a Group IV (PAO) basestock, I am not sure if that is true though, as most say that it has a group III processed mineral oil as a base stock.
To me the whole true synthetic oil is a bit confusing, it seems that most marketed synthetic oils have a non laboratory synthesized base stock, and are a mix of blended oil, which is a blend of non synthetic oil with synthetic oil that is synthesized from dino oil.
The only true synthetic oil I guess would be oil that was truly synthesized in a lab, and not made from any dino oil.
I think only AMSOIL and Royal Purple have that kind of true synthetic oil, as far as I know of anyway, I could be wrong though..

I still hope the gasket is good still, as it is a pain to find the OEM Gasket, I found it once, but lost the link to it..

Red Lubgard is good, it is synthetic. Yes to Delco filter, I always buy/install a new gasket.
Would delco sell gasket individually?

I always like to use a new gasket, or at least when I feel it has had the same one on there for a long time, and I am guessing this one has been on there since 2006.
I'll have to search to see if I can find it, the last time I found it all I can remember is that it costs more than the filter...

So did you use the TF 304 filter? What is the difference with 24227477 filter? I'm getting ready to change the filter on my 1994 LeSabre and these two numbers are a little confusing.
