I need to change plugs in a friends car and was wondering what the OEM plugs were for this engine/model year. Are they a Platinum tipped plug? And what'* plug gap? On Oreillys it looks like the factory gap is .050.

I've been using NGK copper tipped plugs in my 1989 Bonneville, and I really like those a LOT. Good stuff.

oem on gms from around the mid 90'* are delco single platinum, although i have tried putting those in again from the store and they dont seem to last half as long. copper anything is not going to last. and the gap should be listed on the sticker in the engine bay for that particular engine

Anyone know the Part Number for the OEM plugs? I'm probably going to use NGK G-Power'* Platinums but I'd still like to know for reference.

Is it a good idea to change the boots too? This person has gone over 100k on the original boots. I know if they were WIRES I'd sure be changing them.

Unless if they are oil soaked, or come apart when taking off the ignition module I wouldn't worry about it. Comparing prices Id use double platinum a/c delco plugs, they are good to 100k miles and cost the same as ngk. 41-963 is the a/c part number.

Looks like the Delcos are 2x as much as the NGK G-Power'* thou.

Still I may use the Delco'* because I doubt this person will stay up on changing their plugs. The local Oreilly'* doesn't stock them, but I'll check NAPA.

ive not tried ngk car ones but on everything i have that came with them they dont last worth a crap, the stihl saw i bought wouldnt start less than 6 months after i bought it so i took it back and he just the plugs go. he put another one in it and that lasted another six months, i replaced it with a e3 and it start in half the time and that was like 4 or 5 years ago and that is still the same plug. same deal with my quads, snow blower, generator, lawn mower etc.. i put them in my cars now too and they out last my ownership of the car.

platinum 60k miles
iridium 100k miles
I used a set of e3 in a car I had and they were junk 1500 miles later. do not use anything but oem for that make of car. and myself for an extra 2 bucks a plug would use iridium all day long.because who wants to do the job twice?

i used delco platinum and they lasted 30k in my bonnie, i have bought at least 24 e3 for my cars and the cars i work on and havent even had one wear out yet. you can get them for 4.80 from advance if you put p20 in the box
