So went and took my 03 SSEi in for an oil change, they said everything looked good but the guy ringing me up said that there might be a slight oil leak possible leak is the rear main. I think he had no clue what he was talking about cause he thought my car was all wheel drive lol.(it wasn't the mech that was ringing me up) Now I know i have been losing oil but in small amounts, because I do a lot of highway driving for work so I go about 4,000 on oil changes and not this oil change but the one before it my panel said oil level low, so I filled up about a half a quart. Now I didn't think much of it cause maybe they didn't fill it up all the way and I might have burned some up some were along the line. There are no spots in my garage or any were I park. So now that he said that the mechanic said that there is a small leak some were he is not sure were but his notes said possible rear main. I have not clue what that is so any help on that would be nice. Now I have been to this place for all the oil changes and very nice guys they all know I do or have help doing most of my own work. So I know I am losing small amounts of oil some were, I am leaving for a trip to MN on Wednesday I don't think I have anything to worry about but I would like your inputs on what it might be and anything else. If I left out some info you want feel free to ask.

Really, your rear main seal? how does he know that, you can't see it, it'* inside the transmission bell housing. Is this one of those quicky lube places? Never listen to those guys. If your dripping oil, it is most likely the oil pan gasket, a very common problem, but no big deal. Just keep a eye on the level. You can always swing by and have me take a peek if you really want to.

No its Joes auto right by your house. His explanation just didn't sound right and am looking at the paper right here lol. I am not dripping any oil any were that I have seen nothing were I park. It has to be a very small leak though because I have only had it one time in the last about 9,000 miles were I had to add oil cause it was low so not really sure whats going on. Maybe its not leaking at all and they just didn't fill it enough last time. But 2 oil changes ago I had to add oil now they said there might he said might be a slight oil leak rear main main. The guy said in the mech'* notes it was prolly a gasket so idk every other time I was there any time something little was shown they always gave me a detailed description of what was wrong or might be wrong with it. So yea IDK what to think lol so thats why I asked.

You can't see the rear main seal. Burning a little oil is normal.

Yea I know but something just didn't sound right but I figured it woudln't hurt to see what everyone else says. I plan on keeping an eye on it and just seeing if I lose oil and what not. I got my garage floor cleaned now and we will see if any drops start showing up. But normally Joes has always been very good to me so thats why I go there for my oil changes its only 21 bucks.

If your not dripping on the ground, and you don't smell oil in the exhaust, then you should be fine.

What type of oil do you use and how many miles are on the car??

Not sure what they put in, and about 105,000

if its leaking onto the ex. manifold you wont see it on the ground
