Default 2002 Bonneville SSEi Spark Plug Removal

I am having extreme difficulty removing the 3 spark plugs located in the back of the engine. It literally seems impossible.

Anyone have any success or tips they would like to share? I do not want to take it to a mechanic or dealership.

Please Help.

What is causing you trouble? Getting the boots off or getting a socket down there?

The boots are tough to get off because I don't think those wires or plugs have ever been replaced from the previous owner. So far, I have been able to get one of the boots off in the back. The main trouble I am having is the socket wrench.

Room is the biggest problem. I've removed that back bracket on a few cars. 2 13mm nuts hold it on. With that gone life has far less profanity. You will then have better leverage to twist and pull the boots off, and get a socket back there to remove the plugs.

Is it fairly easy to remove the back bracket?

Yes, there are 2 nuts holding it in place, those nuts are on studs on the exhaust manifold. Just remove the nuts, and the bracket comes off. It'* not really needed.

X2 on removing the bracket. The spark plugs are a snap once you get that out of the way.

That bracket, a nice long extending ratchet with pivot head helps as well.
