I own a 98 pontiac grand prix with a3.1 and if I disconnect the motor and transmission will the motor still start tia

Yes it will, if you are talking about just separating them, but leaving everything else connected......

BUT YOU DON'T WANT TO DO THAT!

The motor and tranny act as one unit, and those mounts are such that they hold everything in place as a unit.....if you try and start a separated engine, it will move around and that flex plate could cause damage....just don't do it....
