Default Service Stability System

Pulled codes C1214 and C1248, which are leading me to believe I need to replace the EBCM. I am headed out to the garage to confirm the ABS fuse is okay in the engine compartment fuse block, and to look for loose wires/connections at the EBCM.

Is there anything else I should be looking for?

Any suggestions on where I can get an EBCM for a reasonable price?

As usual, thanks for your help. This site is invaluable.

the optical eye in the steering colum is a usual culprit. not sure what C code it is though. also yaw sensor # 1 located in trunk #2 is next to the rear fuse panel under the seat. those are what i replaced to get rid of my SSS light. let me do some other checking and get back to ya.

Thanks Steve. The stability/ABS system can malfunction for a number of reasons, including steering wheel position sensor, wheel speed sensors, yaw sensor, and the EBCM. That'* why I had a shop pull chassis codes for me, and got C1214 and C1248. C1214 is related to a malfunctioning EBCM, and C1248 is related to the red brake warning lamp being illuminated by the EBCM.

Back to my 2 questions. Other than the ABS fuse in the engine compartment fuse block, and checking for loose wires or connections, is there anything else I can check on the EBCM? I am pretty sure I have to buy a new EBCM, so the second question is whether or not anybody knows where I can get one for less than the $600 (or so) it will cost me.

I'm not aware our car has 2 EBCM'*. The only one I know about is bolted to the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) at the front of the engine on the driver side. The BPVM looks like a block of aluminum with brake lines coming out the top. The EBCM is bolted on the outboard side of the BPVM and has an electrical connection that is best accessed by jacking up the car, removing the left front wheel, and removing the forward half of the plastic inner fender liner. The EBCM is dry, therefore changing it does not require bleeding the system.

I really appreciate your offer to check the local JY, but from what I can determine you are right about there being quite a few different versions, even within the same model year. I will start with Morad.

Thanks for your suggestions. Any suggestions as to what else I should be checking for would be welcome.

my bad i was thinking Body Control Module.
ya morad had a couple listed also your C1248 code in the FSM lists conditions for the code to be set as

DTC C1214, C1217, C1236, C1237, C1254, C1255, C1261-68, or C1271-74 sets

OR Two wheel speed sensor DTCs on the same axel set.

that'* all i got so far still looking into it

I changed both front bearings (which of course include the speed sensors) a couple of months ago and the problem did not go away. I still think its the EBCM.

Thanks Steve. That'* not the right one, but I did contact Morad and they came up with one for me. I bought it today.
