2001 Grand Prix GT 3.8 Parking Brake Failure
I still have two things outstanding that are keeping me from getting a sticker for the car after nearly 2 months after purchase:
1. Emission P0171 here which has already been addressed by forum members and not yet completed by me: https://www.gmforum.com/pontiac-168/...h-idle-309160/
2. Parking Brake failure: replaced all rotors and pads working great except parking/emergency brake did not improve with new rotors. Seem to have enough pad on the shoe pads. When i push brake down it goes to the floor with only a little resistance but not enough to stop car when idling in drive. I adjusted parking brake tension-er (little pin-gear wheels) which expand shoe adjustment even more so it was nice and snug on inside of rotors but the pedal still goes to the floor and is not tight enough to stop car. Is there something else I need to do as because when I have the rear rotors off both shoes expand enough seemingly to my eye so I don't thing the cable is bound or rusted. ANy ideas? thanks will take pictures the next chance I get or if advised.

The cable may have stretched.
There may be further adjustments in the cable itself.
Look along the Parking brake cable lines, and see if there may be tensioner /adjustment points.

Ok, so you installed new rear rotors?
Jack up one wheel......Adjustment of the shoe is critical......has to be done before the caliper is put on.....brake pads have nothing to do with the E-brake.....it'* the shoe on the inside of the rotor that does the work....this should be easy with new rotors because there is no ridge on the inside of the rotor....make sure the adjuster is working ok...you want a slight drag when you spin the rotor....now yank on the brake cable, and that rotor should not move....check for slight drag again...adjust if necessary....with a slight drag, and the rotor locking up when yanking on the cable, now install the mounting bracket, pads and caliper....proceed to the other side.....adjust cable if necessary....

Yes new 4 wheel disc brake job. Yes when I meant pads I meant the shoes on the E-Brake. I agree way too much slack in lines. I adjusted the shoes with the pinwheel adjuster to where I could Just get the rotor back on them somewhat snug. Looks like it all about my deteriorated stretched out lines. I even put in that crappy cheapo adjuster which took up 2 inches of line slack and the car still rolled with brake pedal to the floor. Ya I know it really shouldn't go all the way to the floor. The original OEM? horizontal rusted slack adjuster (seen last image below) is not readily seen with other E-brake parts?, as only found the lines and a kit for the inards of the E-brake but not the rusted cable adjuster. DO I have to replace all the lines as I'd like to avoid the longest which goes to E-brake pedal.
