This is a strange problem with my G5... when I take my foot off the brake pedal, I hear a little squeak from the back of the car. The brakes seem to work fine, but what'* causing that sound?

Does it do it every time when u take your foot off the brake?

Could be a caliper pin going dry. Do you know when the last time the rear brakes have been serviced?

i belive its drum, but same diff. i would take it apart and grease things and put some never sieze on the adjustor

Justin, yes, it appears to be another front disc, rear drum car.

Mike, I don't know when it was serviced. I bought the car in November. All I know is that as of my last oil change, the shoes have 5/32" of pad left, the discs 8/32", and no apparent problems. (Monro is nice and gives you a little report.)

Art, yes, it happens every time. However, it'* quiet enough that you can only hear it when you're in a drive-through and you have a brick wall up against the car.

I can work on discs, but I have zero experience with brake drums, so I might just tell Monro it'* squeaking and see if they'll grease it for cheap.

More often than not, the "lands" on the backing plate have to be lubed......should wash down all brake dust with Brake Klean, make sure adjuster is working, and lube the lands(I use Never Seize)....then adjust shoes......

Check that wheel cylinder, that it'* not leaking.....

If you are going to drive it in any salt conditions Colin I would highly recommend that you service and inspect the rear drum brakes every year. And try to keep the front & backside of backing plates clean as possible. I ignored my cutlass once for 3 years and when it was time for shoes/cylinders spring kit, I found 2 pins that hold the springs in place loose /rusting away, and I had to replace both backing plates. I wish I had used a power washer under the car in winter more often, and kept everything clean, lubed & painted as well.
