A/C Compressor Clutch not engaging
 

I am having issues with 2 98 Pontiac Sunfires A/C compressor Clutch. One is a Sedan and the other is a convertible. A/C works base on the temperature outside. If it's cold and I turn it on I get some cold air and when it's warm I get warm air. After making some research online I found the pressure on the low pressure port was very low it wouldn't even read on both cars so I refilled it with R134. Cold air will still not come out of the A/C. I located the Compressor and it was spinning ok. the very end of the compressor (i believe the clutch) wasn't spinning so I tried spinning it with my hands and turn the engine on. Surprisingly it (the clutch) started moving and car was blowing cold air. I was very happy until this afternoon when I turned the car on and all i got was hot/warm air. So far only tried the R134 on one Sunfire. was wondering if I can get some ideas before I pay big benjies to have them looked at. Thanks in advance.

Actually I double check and the compressor clutch is working fine after I put in the R134. Will this be a leak problem?

If your loosing pressure then you have a leak. You can add some dye and that will help you locate the leak.

will give the dye a try this weekend

on all gms the clucth will ingage once when u turn it on and turn it off it doenst constintly kick on like other models but if ur 134a is low it will cause this prob or u got a bad compressor

and if ur losing pressure check ur a/c condensor to if ur losing pressure but dye will solve all ur problems and help u better pin point the cause of the prob

Try locating a leak sealer with dye to help minimize your investments as well.

I used the refrigerant with the UV dye and still couldn't find a leak. The clutch engaged alright and AC was on for a couple of hours. I did some physical check and found a leak (mainly bubbles) on the low pressure valve. I bought a new adapter and replaced the valve. Surprisingly, new valve also had bubbles coming out after completing evacuation and putting more refrigerant. This time around A/C was on for a good 6 days and on the 7th day back to where it all began. Should I replace the high pressure valve also? It's hard to see if there's a leak there due to where it's mounted. Any advise what may be going on?

once u filled it up did u here air coming out anywhere like from the front by the condensor?

I didn't notice any air coming out from or around the condenser. Will this be something I would have notice right away or need to physically inspect the condenser? If there's a air coming out what will that imply?
