ABS light came on

I was driving down my street in the pouring rain, when all of a sudden, the ABS and Traction Off lights came on. I turned the car off and on, and now the lights are off. Do you think it's worth paying to try to get the ABS codes read somewhere, or would they have disappeared now?

Whenever this rain stops, I'm going to try pulling off the tires and checking the wheel speed sensor wiring for damage.

Also, I've noticed that this car seems to do an ABS self-test once per drive cycle. When I shift into Drive and move forward a few feet, I can hear the ABS activating for a second or two. Is that normal for the GP's? My Bonneville never did that.

My PA does, and it is specifically mentions that this is normal in the owners manual on mine (ABS Operation on startout).

Sometimes if a brake is grabby, or squeaking, or even wiring gets really wet, it can give you grief.

I would write it off as a fluke unless it crops up again.

If you have a scanner that can read it, by all means, but no need to start throwing money at it just yet.

The brakes feel fine, but I repeated my same drive, and the ABS/trac lights lit up on the same part of the same road, about 5-10 seconds after clipping a puddle (intentionally this time). We'll see if it comes back if/when the rain stops and things dry out.

Before the light came on, I tried slamming on the brakes to get the ABS to kick on, but I guess the roads aren't that bad.

Thanks for clarifying that ABS operation thing. :thumbup2
