Default Replacing rear coil springs.

HI, I have a 96 bonneville se, and was wanting to replace the rear springs. I purchased new springs, and they seem to be longer, and not as wide as old ones. I am thinking that they are correct, just not had 15 years of weight on them. I took control arm bolts out and removed old spring, but couldnt get the new spring in there. Is there an easier way to do this process? maybe I need to remove the strut also. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Steve My new springs are moog cc661
