Default 1997 SSEi Pushrod wont stay under Rocker..

Hello i own a 97 ssei heavily modded and recently have quite the problem. The Pushrod under one of the Rockers will not stay in place in the rear cylinder bank (of course lol). Me and my uncle pulled all the **** off and he seen it right away. Checked it for being bent and it was ok. Likewise for the rocker. We put it back in correctly, put all the **** back together and after the car HEATS up a little you can here the car ting and bang meaning she let go again. What would cause this? He thinks it may be a collasped lifter. The heads on my car are Intense Stage 3 CNC Heads with Intense rods and 1.6. intense roller rockers. Also if anyone has experience with these heads , can you get the lifter out with a magnet???? Cause we really dont wanna have to pull the engine all apart. And if it comes to that would the gaskets we different than those of stock heads etc? Any help would be appriecated and /or ideas.

Thanks for reading.

I'm also thinking a collapsed lifter. Put a new lifter in.

Bad lifter. It'* allowing slop in the push rod.

Steve,

I'm thinking it'* likely a lifter. Yes you can pull them with a magnet. Being that you have a modded 97 with Intense S3 heads... let me guess your car is black and intercooled as well with an electric water pump etc. That car should have an Intense cam in it as well.

If that'* the right car, holler and I can link you to the build up of your car by one of our members. Tons of pictures etc.

Also.. since it'* a highly modified car, if you have any questions of torque specs etc (they are different for modded parts) just ask.

Thanks for the input guys. Thats great to hear it can be pulled with a magnet, i was dreading the tear down.

And Billboost37 you are correct. it is black and does have the intense cam etc. I beleive this was Merlin'* car?. When i originally posted on here pics people and him posted right away.

It would be great if you could send me links of the build up and the specs of whatever i need to tighten down etc. it would be an awesome help and greatly apreicated. If its the lifter then its most likely Intense Issue also?.

That was a great car and I really wanted to pick it up, but would have been a long trip to pick i up. Not hard to swap a lifter. Just pull the lower intake manifold up, less then 2 hours. Pull that rocker and push rod, remove 2 bolts holding the lifter holder down.

You can see the holders here.

Just pull out old lifter, and drop in new one. Should be able to do the whole job in perhaps 4 or 5 hours. You will need LIM gaskets, throttle body gasket, perhaps valve cover gaskets and injector O rings. That'* about it. Only special tool needed is a inch pound torque wrench.

The only oddball spec you are likely to run into is the rocker bolt. The reusable (hex head) bolts should be torqued to 25ft lbs.

On Dan'* gasket list, I think he meant SC gasket when he said throttle body. You shouldn't need TB unless you pull it off. Add a set of coolant elbows (Dorman 47065) and you should have it.

Second thought, I think the ar is intercooled. If it is .. pick up a couple rolls of gasket material and make your own. Then use permatex RTV 26B around the openings on the LIM to seal all the areas. I've yet to have one leak. Usually have to use a prybar to get them apart..but they seal well.

If I remember right it has a intercooler, so ya, 2 gaskets. As Bill said, pick up 2 rolls of gasket. You can get one gasket from each roll. I've made perhaps a dozen of them, or more, don't remember. It'* easy, and cheep.

Wow thanks alot, those pictures and specs will be a great help. Ya the car is intercooled, I almost forgot until you guys mentioned it. The Permatex seal, can you pick it up at any autoparts store or does it have to be a performance shop? And all of the gaskets{LIM, SC etc) i take it would be the same as stock?, if so that'll make life easier. Would the Lifters be stock or aftermarket ? Which is my main issue. Cause if they arent stock i'd like to get a head start and start ordering. Sorry for asking all these questions but i just dont wanna screw anything up lol.

Once again thanks for all the help, this is a great forum. Nice to see people that care.

PS. This is a great car, lots of power to boot
