So my wiper / washer fluid circuit on my 94 Bonneville SE is consistently blowing. I went out one morning and they didn't work, it didn't happen at any specific time. I just noticed that after I scraped off my car my wipers wouldn't turn on. I assumed they were frozen so tested the turn signals they worked, but the washer fluid didn't work. I checked the owners manual, sure enough fuse 8E is wipers / washer and it was blown.

I do have a remote starter that I self installed under the column which this could very well relate back to.

My question is, does anyone know the colors of the windshield wipers and washer fluid system wires, and where do they go? Do they just go straight down to the column into the harness?

This is a huge safety issue because I live near Lake Michigan and am constantly getting hammered with snow. I need my wipers!

If it'* not wiring shorting out, what else to check / could be causing it? I have not noticed any other systems not working to this point, but I have not checked all of the fuses. It'* cold out and no garage!

How often does this happen? Is this the first time it has blown?

Where did you pull power from for your remote start?

This was the first time it'* happened, and the remote start has been in over a year and a half. I replaced the fuse again (I had one of those packs with like ten of each fuse from Autozone that no one would ever actually need) and it worked that time. So who knows, maybe it blew trying to move frozen wipers and the second was just a bad fuse? It'* working at this point in time anyway.

Coming from an undergrad electrical engineer .. 25 A seems like an awful lot to move some windshield wipers and spray some fluid

Well, two fairly powerful motors when wiping full speed and a sprayer... I can see it.

Hopefully it stays working for you, otherwise swap it with a 30A and hope you can call it good. Obviously if it is a short putting a bigger fuse in is a bad idea, but it sounds like it might be just barely peaking the fuse. I had my interior lamps blowing every few weeks, swapped the 10A for a 15A and now all is good.

Is the fluid frozen? It'* not uncommon to get WW fluid that doesn't perform to the claimed freeze rating.

Oh no, I highly doubt the fluid is frozen, but the wipers are usually surrounded by a block of ice each morning prior to 15 minutes of remote start. This one time I just didn't happen to have the time to let it heat up first and did the old hand scraping gig. I actually didn't even try to spray when I noticed it, I switched the wipers to low and nothing happened, then tried the spray. So who knows, I'll keep an eye on it. Maybe just too much snow in the kick panel, too.

We've already had 6"+ today and I think it'* coming for at least the next two days. If nothing else I'll try the 30 A. If it was a short I doubt it would have stayed on with the second replacement.
