Default Engine ID / Car Model?

I have a 58 Bonneville with a later model engine installed. The block casting code is 500810, which I found is for a late-75 or 76 350 cu in. However, I cannot find its block code of "XX" anywhere under 75 or 76 model years. Can anyone please tell me what model car [LeMans, Ventura, Firebird, Grand Prix (in 76)] this came from??

All the XX codes I could find were for 400 cu in engines, years 67-73--along with different block casting #'* of course.

Tks in advance for any HELP here...

Thx Justin,

After the XX in your post, what does the "A 7.6 254 6X 1-2 17056161/63" mean?? Pls pardon my uninformedness (ignorance). Also, do you have a clue as to what model(*) used this engine in 1976?

Monte

1976 350 160 HP (Late) XX
Trans=A
Comp ratio=7.6
Cam=254
Head=6x
BBL=1-2
carb=17056161/63
Misc=Block Casting # 500810

from the decoder
"Pontiac stamped the VIN numbers (see pic above) next to the timing cover about even with the timing marks on cover.This will start with a 2 (for Pontiac) then the last digit of the year then the car serial number starting with the plant letter.These are usually covered with oil and crud, and probably hard to see.This will tell you if this is an original motor."

if you find the vin you should be able to decode what car it came from

Thx again--that'* a great decoding source/info. We're now having a freezing rain/ice storm here in MYR. I'll break into storage garage/shed, pop hood on 58 Bonne & look for VIN # after the thaw.

OK--I finally found the engine VIN # you were referring to. Where'* a source to decode this 1976-vintage Pontiac engine VIN'*? Here'* my #, as best I could see it===26X133821. From you earlier post/reply, I gather the 2=Pontiac, 6=1976 year, what is X & the rest of numbers represent??

TIA for additional assistance!

Pontiac Power
may not be able to tell what car it was from, i think that site says its a engine number like its own number.
